About the person
Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh (28 February 1962 – 13 June 2025) was one of the most notorious military figures of the Islamic Republic—best known for commanding the IRGC Aerospace Force, an organization sanctioned internationally and formally designated as a terrorist entity by the United States. From 2009 until his assassination in 2025, Hajizadeh played a central role in building the Islamic Republic’s missile empire, exporting violence across the Middle East, and enabling a system responsible for human-rights abuses, political repression, and civilian deaths both inside Iran and abroad.

Born in Tehran to a family from Karaj, Hajizadeh rose through the ranks of the Revolutionary Guards during a period in which the regime increasingly militarized its ideology. As head of the Aerospace Force, he oversaw development of medium- and long-range ballistic missiles designed not for defense, but for projecting power, intimidating neighbors, and striking civilian infrastructure in other countries. In a 2016 military exercise he declared proudly:

“We designed our missiles with a 2,000 km range so we can hit our enemies from a safe distance.”

Architect of Regional Violence and Proxy Warfare

Hajizadeh was one of the principal engineers behind Iran’s aggressive regional doctrine—arming militias, supporting insurgent groups, and directing operations that destabilized entire nations. He openly admitted in multiple speeches that Iran supplied weapons to non-state actors in Lebanon, Gaza, Iraq, Yemen, and beyond. His own words exposed the scale of the regime’s covert operations:

“It is obvious from the weapons of our dear ones in Palestine, Lebanon and elsewhere that they are being supplied by Iran.”

These “dear ones” include organizations responsible for targeting civilians, recruiting child soldiers, and suppressing democratic movements in the region.

Commander of Major Attacks on Israel

Hajizadeh played a commanding role in organizing and executing two major missile-drone assaults on Israel:

April 2024 – Operation True Promise

October 2024 – Operation True Promise 2

Both operations involved the launching of waves of drones and ballistic missiles across the region, endangering millions of civilians. Hajizadeh publicly glorified these attacks, stating in July 2024:

“We are hopeful for the opportunity to carry out Operation True Promise 2.”

He repeatedly vowed to expand Iran’s offensive capabilities, framing regional conflict as a desirable and inevitable act of “resistance.”

Complicity in Domestic Repression

As a top IRGC commander, Hajizadeh was part of an institution deeply involved in:

Violent crackdowns on protests (including 2009, 2017–18, 2019, 2022)

Surveillance and abduction of dissidents

Torture and extrajudicial detention

Deployment of missiles and drones against Kurdish civilian areas

Suppression of ethnic and religious minorities

The Aerospace Force under his leadership also played a direct role in the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 in 2020, killing 176 civilians. The regime initially denied responsibility, then admitted to firing the missiles only after international pressure—an event that remains one of the darkest stains on Hajizadeh’s record.

A Legacy Defined by Destruction

Hajizadeh was killed on 13 June 2025 in an Israeli airstrike during the escalating Iran–Israel conflict. His death ended a military career defined not by service, but by the promotion of militarism, the spread of regional chaos, and the violation of human rights.

He leaves behind a legacy of:

Weaponizing terror groups

Seeking regional confrontation

Expanding Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal

Endangering civilian populations

Suppressing democratic aspirations of the Iranian people

For many Iranians and human-rights advocates, Hajizadeh symbolizes the destructive force of the Islamic Republic’s military elite—men who wield weapons not to defend the nation, but to preserve tyranny and export violence.
