Within the vast tapestry of Iran’s modern history, Minoo Majidi stands as a luminous figure—an Iranian Kurdish woman whose life reflected both resilience and devotion to her community. Born on July 11, 1960, in Qasr-e Shirin, near the western frontier of Iran, she came from the Yarsan religious minority, a heritage she carried with dignity. Later settling in Kermanshah, she built a life defined by service: a committed wife, a loving mother to two daughters and a son, and a respected teacher whose influence lived well beyond her classroom.

After the 1979 revolution, as the clerical regime consolidated power, Minoo—like many educators, minorities, and independent thinkers—faced persecution. During the regime’s so-called “Cultural Revolution,” she was dismissed from her teaching position, part of a purge designed to silence dissent and enforce ideological conformity in schools and universities. Yet despite this injustice, Minoo did not withdraw from public life. In the 1990s, she turned her energy toward volunteer work, becoming a table tennis coach for deaf and hard-of-hearing students—a quiet but powerful act of social solidarity that reaffirmed her commitment to inclusion, dignity, and the empowerment of the vulnerable.

When news of Mahsa (Jina) Amini’s death in the custody of the Morality Police spread across Iran on September 16, 2022, Minoo—herself Kurdish—felt the weight of the collective grief and anger that stirred the nation. The people of Kermanshah joined citizens across Iran in rising up, demanding an end to oppression and the restoration of fundamental rights long denied.

On September 20, 2022, only days after the protests began, Minoo Majidi walked into the streets of Kermanshah to stand with her fellow citizens. Before leaving her home, she expressed the principle that had guided her entire life:
“If I don’t go to protest, who will?”
In those simple words echoed decades of integrity, courage, and devotion to justice—values she had instilled in her children, her students, and all who knew her.

For historians, Minoo’s life embodies the moral backbone of a people who, despite decades of pressure, continue to rise. And for the Iranian nation, she remains a symbol of steadfastness—a mother, a teacher, and a citizen who answered history’s call when her homeland needed her most.
